Topic #4 Vivid Language

Dialogue:

Define-A conversation between two or more people.

Examples:
“Don’t be like this,” said Ishmael
“Go away,” she’d answered.
“Hatsue,” said Ishmael. “Don’t be like this.”
“Go away,” she’d said again.
pg. 8

This is a conversation between Ishmael and Hatsue before the trial of Hatsue’s husband Kabuo. This quote sets the mood for Hatsue and Ishmael’s relationship. This quote shows that they are no longer best friends like they were when they were children growing-up on San Piedro Island.

“Due west seven, middle west seven. Leaves plots north and south. I told him better the northwest seven. If I was going to sell. It’s hilly anyway.”
Etta poured the coffee for both of them. “We ain’t going to sell,” she said firmly. “Not in such times as these, when land is cheap. Not until better times come.”
“it’s hilly,” repeated Carl.”
pg. 117

This is a conversation between Etta and Carl about selling land to Kabuo’s father Zenhichi Miyamoto. The above quote shows who the “man” of the house really is. Etta is very bossy and always needs to put in her second opinion.
